Personally, I’ve been spending this transitional period between Christmas and New Year’s Day taking a chance on myself by making some substantial changes in my attitude.
Reading some blogging has shaken me from my work-week stupor (fuck Microsoft) and it seems like a good time to actually work through my thought process as relates to, as I have nicknamed him to avoid giving him power, “the orange man with many stories”.
This concluding passage from this George Lakoff post does a lot of the work I’d have to do to explain how to defeat him:
Values come first, facts and policies follow in the service of values. They matter, but they always support values.
Give up identity politics. No more women’s issues, black issues, Latino issues. Their issues are all real, and need public discussion. But they all fall under freedom issues, human issues. And address poor whites! Appalachian and rust belt whites deserve your attention as much as anyone else. Don’t surrender their fate to Trump, who will just increase their suffering.
And remember JFK’s immortal, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Empathy, devotion, love, pride in our country’s values, public resources to create freedoms. And adulthood.
Be prepared. You have to understand Trump to stand calmly up to him and those running with him all over the country.
If I may move forward the collective understanding of Trump a little bit more - it is to say that, in video game terms, the orange man’s weak spot truly is exposed by the bit about his being in diapers for the last 30 years, due to stimulant abuse. Though she was never incontinent, I am sure that my ex-wife would find herself in the same position were she not psychiatrically hospitalized for the exact same behavior as Donald Trump pulled.
Live on a knife’s edge.
